A partitioning approach for the parallel simulation of ungrounded shipboard power systems using Kron's diakoptics and loop analysis

چکیده
ABSTRACT This work seeks to determinate whether the transient simulation on two PCs employing diakoptics to partition short cables is better, flop-wise, than using one PC─even for a small network. A methodology for the parallel simulation of a shipboard power system coupled by short lines is presented. Loop analysis, suggested by the nature of ungrounded power systems, is applied to formulate and solve the system of equations. An approach developed by G. Kron is utilized to partition a line’s capacitance to produce isolated sub-networks, which sets up the system for parallel simulation. Upon comparing simulation results from the un-partitioned and partitioned networks and on the basis of Kron’s diakoptics, it is concluded that transient simulation using two PCs is better, flop-wise, than using one PC.

Navy shipboard power systems have different characteristics when compared to utility power systems. To conduct system studies on shipboard power systems, an effective simulation tool is required to model shipboard electric power systems. PSpice is a very powerful tool for analog/digital circuit simulation, but it is rarely used for power systems. This paper presents modeling shipboard power sys...
متن کاملOn Diakoptics: Tearing an Arbitrary System*
Kron's techniques of tearing and if-partitioning are discussed as they apply to large linear systems of an arbitrary nature and tearing is discarded as inefficient. It is shown that decreasing the size of the sub-units in if-partitioning increases its efficiency; carried to the limit, this reduction results in a Gaussian elimination scheme. Finally, the optimum application of if-partitioning is...

متن کاملAccelerating the Simulation of Shipboard Power Systems
This paper presents an approach to accelerate the simulation of shipboard power systems. A common issue in the ship research community is the simulation run time of large-scale shipboard power systems. A contributor to lengthy run times is that PC-based power system simulators do not exploit multicore technology, which stems from the fact that software trails advances in hardware. The Center fo...
